Michigan has a strong in-state presence in Medicare Advantage. Health systems based here run some of the largest plans — Priority Health (Corewell Health) offers 40 plans and Health Alliance Plan (Henry Ford Health) offers 13 — and national insurers including Humana, UnitedHealthcare, Aetna and Devoted Health compete alongside them.

Choice is deepest in Southeast and West Michigan: Washtenaw, Genesee, Oakland, Wayne and Kent counties each have 63 or more plans open to everyone. In the Upper Peninsula, Baraga, Ontonagon and Mackinac counties have only 9 to 10 each. If you live in the U.P., or split the year between regions, confirming that your doctors and hospital are in a plan's network matters even more.
